Facts about kitesurfing

How it works

  • Near Cape Town, from October to March (that's spring and summer there), a strong wind often blows from the south-east. It's called the Cape Doctor.
  • When that wind blows, there is often a white cloud over Table Mountain. It's called the tablecloth.
  • On the beach at Blouberg, it's usually windier in the afternoon than in the morning.
  • You can see the wind: in a flag, in blowing sand and in white caps on the waves.
  • When it's too windy, even a small kite pulls far too hard for a child. But grown-up kiters on the water love that kind of wind.
